My MBA from Santa Clara University helps me stay competitive with the knowledge that I have learned from a Silicon Valley-based core curriculum program.
I am Alexander Titus, I am a senior business planner doing pricing and packaging strategy at Microsoft. I went to Santa Clara University and received a Masters in Business Administration. As someone that had to work full-time to support their family, I found that the online MBA was best to suit my lifestyle, they're able to hook people up remotely, give them the same opportunities, give them the contact information and the same skill set. Same mindset still applies. Ethics were a key component of the MBA program at Santa Clara University.
Not just ethics, but ethics in Silicon Valley and ethics in business. And I appreciated the class because it set me up for success once I did get into the tech sector, we handle a number of wide-ranging ethical issues, and keeping that knowledge in my back pocket has certainly helped me with confidence and make the certain decisions that I needed.
My advice, given the macro economic climate right now where companies are laying off tons of people, is to do your due diligence. You've learned how to read the difference between whether the company is successful or maybe teetering, is the difference from being laid off and not being laid off in this industry, I feel 100% that earning my MBA at Santa Clara University helped me get into a tech company in Silicon Valley. I would have never been able to get a job at VMware, Salesforce, or Microsoft if it wasn't for learning the skills at Santa Clara University.
In my current role, I often find myself thumbing back to class notes to help provide evidence and reasoning for product improvements.

Jennifer Nguyen: For me, I think the online classroom it's been structured in a way that really is trying to help us engage with each other more. Every assignment has a very discussion-based component to it where we actually have to stand our ground or defend our point of view or answer questions.
Gabe Limon: Having conversations about the coursework has really triggered a lot of thoughts in my mind about just taking positive risks in the future and applying these skills to my current job and future opportunities as well.
Jennifer Nguyen:
Not only are we getting to know each other, but we're also getting very different perspectives on the readings. I have someone who's a product manager over at Cisco, as well as someone who's doing biz ops development over at Stripe, a really hot startup right now. So just having that be the type of people you're talking with every day or bouncing ideas and doing coursework with really changes your perspective but also ties into the Silicon Valley mindset at the same time.
I get to work with some of the most brilliant minds in Silicon Valley here in this program.
Have Your Sights Set on Silicon Valley?
The ultimate goal of the Online MBA curriculum is to help students become Silicon Valley Professionals (SVP). An SVP is a person with the skills and tenacity to make change happen in their career and for their company, along with the compassion and ethics to make a positive impact in their community. Each course, residency, and co-curricular is designed and verified by Silicon Valley executives to teach the skills they look for in hiring, which fall under these four domains:
- Domain 1: Principled Leadership
- Domain 2: Communication and Team Building
- Domain 3: Analysis and Interpretation
- Domain 4: Innovation and Entrepreneurial Mindset

The SVP process, however, is not just limited to the curriculum.
